Nhìn Lại Lịch Sử Phật Giáo Việt Nam Qua Các Triều Đại

Tôn GiáoTrần Chung Ngọc

Buddhism arrived in Vietnam during the first centuries of the common era, carried along trade routes from India and China. Its early development occurred under Chinese administrative control, yet Vietnamese practitioners quickly adapted Buddhist teachings to local cosmological and social frameworks.

During the Lý and Trần dynasties (11th–14th centuries), Buddhism achieved its greatest institutional prominence. Royal courts sponsored major temple construction, supported monastic education, and drew on Buddhist ethical frameworks in governance.

Subsequent centuries brought Confucian administrative reforms that reduced Buddhist institutional power, yet popular Buddhist practice remained deeply embedded in village life, funerary customs, and the ritual calendar.
