Congratulations to President-electObama
Nov 5, 2008
To: Honorable President-elect Barack Obama On behalf of the Vietnamese Community of Southern California (VCSC), please accept our heartfelt congratulations for having been chosen by the American people to be the 44th President of the United States of America . Sir, you have achieved a great thing for yourself and for America as Senator Mc Cain rightfully praised you for your victory. So, centuries after a nation was founded on freedom but enslaved its own, 232 years after the Declaration of Independence prematurely called "all men are created equal" and naively pledged "liberty to men who owned other men", 45 years after the death of Martin Luther King, the course of human events had arrived: tens of millions of Americans have voted for an African American man for President. Mr. President-elect, your election is a harbinger that "the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans" as President Kennedy once said. We believe that you have played an important role in making Martin Luther King's dream a reality, and that in this generation Americans hopefully live in a nation where they should "not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character". Mr. President-elect, may the energy, the faith, the devotion which you bring to the White House "will light our country, and the glow from that fire can truly light the world". Respectfully yours, Vinh Xuan Nguyen. M.D President, VCSC
